sketchbook: the new haven & yale arts zine

From the academic journal publishing global scholarship on art and art history, Asterisk* Sketchbook is our answer to the need for a New Haven-focused arts zine. Submissions from residents of New Haven, Yale students, and from anyone else sharing a connection to the city or university are heartily welcomed.

essays, reviews, and other words

Please submit a 500-word-maximum pitch summarizing your written submission's intended subject. Further, detail why you think your pitch fits Asterisk*'s mission, how it connects to the Yale-New Haven community, the word-count you anticipate for the pitched piece, and other information you decide is relevant to your pitch. Selected pitches will receive drafts for revision prior to final publication. Previously published pieces will not be considered for publication.

poems, short stories, and other creative writing

Please submit your work in your preferred format. Selected creative writing pieces will receive drafts for revision prior to final publication. Previously published pieces will not be considered for publication.

2D artworks

Please submit a photograph of your artworks as individual and high-resolution “.jpgs” with their titles as file names. You may attach a 200-word description of the artwork. All photographable mediums of creative work will be considered (painting, photography, digital art, drawings, etc.). Previously published artworks will not be considered for publication

Please submit your film in your preferred filetype. Furthermore, please attach a 200-word description of the video. Previously published films will not be considered for publication.
